The Office of the Public Guardian in partnership with the Change & Digital Innovation (CDi) team at SCTS and the Judicial Institute has developed an online training course for eligible solicitors who are part of the professional guardians’ scheme.
The scheme was designed as part of the Public Guardian’s move towards a tailored approach to supervising financial guardians. It has been operating since 2017.
Eligible firms must attend the Public Guardian’s mandatory training. Previously, the half day mandatory training was delivered face-to-face to groups of solicitors and support staff throughout Scotland. However, this method of training encountered a number of challenges. It relied on a cohort of OPG operational staff taking time out of the business to travel to various locations to facilitate sessions. Similarly, solicitors had to take time out of practice to travel to and from training and attend training, often outwith their own geographical area. These factors were significant reasons for OPG to review the delivery method of the training.
OPG, CDi and the Judicial Institute have all worked together and OPG are delighted to announce that the online course is now available on the Judicial Hub. Fiona Brown, Public Guardian said: “This is an exciting and collaborative project between OPG and the Judicial Hub. The online training course is much more accessible and can be accessed by the professional user whenever they wish to complete the training”.
The professional guardians’ scheme is open to professional firms who have five or more guardianship cases. Please see our website for more information about the scheme.
