From 27 January 2020 we will be adding a new check to our registration process to ensure that we have due jurisdiction to deal with a power of attorney (PoA) submitted for registration. Our new official registration form, required for postal submissions, includes four statements relating to the granter. The statement that applies will require to be identified: The granter lives in Scotland, 2020. The EPOAR facility will also be updated to allow the same information to be provided

As of 24 October 2016, we will not make observations when an application is made for a welfare guardianship or welfare intervention order. This means that solicitor applicants will no longer receive a letter from us prior to the hearing date. We will continue to make observations for combined welfare and financial applications and provide a copy of our letter to solicitor applicants

A scheme was launched to refund those who may have paid more than they should for applying to register powers of attorney in England and Wales. A similar refund scheme is not required for Scotland. The law relating to powers of attorney in Scotland is entirely separate; the fees charged in Scotland are assessed every three years and are currently £77, in total, for registration of a welfare and financial power of attorney. Due to a heating failure, OPG staff are prevented from working at our office today (Tuesday). Where possible, staff have been redeployed to work from home, however this does mean that it may take a bit longer to get through to speak to a member of staff by telephone.

The fault with our electronic registration facility, known as EPOAR has now been resolved.
EPOAR has now been updated with all cases processed by us from 13 October 2017 onwards and Certificates of Registration are now available for downloading.
All submissions paid for or paid by transfer in EPOAR from 13 October 2017 have now been transferred over to us and will be processed in due course.
