People involved
When making an application for an order, a variety of people can be involved:
- Applicant – person with an interest making the application
- Adult – person over 16 years who is incapable of managing their own affairs
- Relevant others – includes the nearest relative, named person, primary carer and any other person with an interest in the welfare and financial affairs of the adult (this could be a health or social work care manager).
- Legal adviser – a practising solicitor who can provide legal advice, prepare the application and arrange for the supplementary reports.
- Nominated intervener – the person being put forward to act as intervener
- Mental health officer – an officer based at the local authority with expertise in mental health matters
- Medical practitioner – medical doctor who is registered and licensed to practice in the UK
