Selling the adult's house
If you have been granted authority to sell the adult's house it will be stated in the court order. You can now take steps to prepare the property for sale and arrange for it to be put on the open market.
Once you have received an offer that you propose to accept you will need to apply to the Public Guardian for consent to the sale price. There is not a specific application form to use however you will need to write to us and send the following:
- a copy of the offer
- a list of other offers received
- a valuation report
- details of how the property was marketed
When we receive all the information we need we aim to make a decision within 5 days. If the sale price is approved, we will issue a letter which you can then present to the purchasing agent. Should you have any queries with regards to whether consent is required, please contact us.
Buying a house for the adult
If the Sheriff has given you authority to buy a dwelling house for the adult, you will need to apply to the Public Guardian for consent to the purchase price you intend to pay. There is not a specific application form to use however you will need to write to us and send the following:

Is there a fee?
We do not charge a fee for providing consent under an intervention order to either the sale or purchase price of a dwelling house.
