Step 3 – Your registered PoA

Our checks

When we receive your PoA we will check to make sure it meets the statutory registration requirements. If it does we will register the PoA and update the public register.

If the PoA doesn’t meet the registration requirements we will email you to advise of the reasons. Once you have made the necessary changes you will need to restart the registration process from the beginning as it’s not possible to resubmit the original registration. For more guidance, see: What happens to rejected cases?

To help avoid your PoA being rejected and returned for amendment, see our common reasons for rejection

Downloading the registered PoA

When we have registered the PoA and updated the public register we will email the person who submitted the PoA. The email will advise that the certificate of registration and a copy of the PoA document can now be downloaded from EPOAR. It is important that the downloaded documents are certified immediately.

Certifying your PoA as a true copy

Before using the registered PoA document you will need to make sure that each page of the downloaded documentation is certified as being a true copy of the original.

The granter of the PoA, a solicitor, a stockbroker, a chartered legal executive or a person authorised for the purposes of the Legal Services Act 2007 can do this.

It is highly recommended that this is done immediately to save any problems later on e.g. the granter will not be able to do so if they later become incapable.
